Malissia A. Johnson, CFP®
Malissia is the founder and president of Emerald Spectrum Advisory. Malissia has been serving multi-generation families since 1998 having been in financial services since 1982. She is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner as well as an Accredited Asset Management SpecialistSM and Chartered Mutual Fund CounselorSM She is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), the Financial Services Institute (FSI), and Insured Retirement Institute (IRI). Malissia is also a Registered Principal and Investment Adviser Representative of Commonwealth Financial Network.
She is a Tennessee native and calls Brentwood home with her husband, Dennis, and their two orange tabbies, Clementine and Tangerine. Her daughter, Lauren, graduated from the University of Tennessee in spring 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and with a minor in sociology. Lauren is living in Denver and enjoys her position of activities director at a long-term care facility and is also currently pursuing a master’s degree in occupational therapy. Malissia’s stepson, Brian, shares her passion for financial planning and is an associate advisor with Emerald Spectrum Advisory and focuses on assisting young professionals with their future family goals.
Family is of the utmost importance to her. She is passionate about helping families in all aspects of their financial lives. She enjoys helping them as they pursue their dreams and also in handling life’s speed bumps along the way. Malissia enjoys spending time with her own family, traveling, creative cooking, reading, and working on projects around the house. She loves going to concerts of almost any music genre, the theatre, and attending football, baseball, and hockey games.
In 2011, she traveled with the FPA to China as part of a delegation of financial planners. She joined approximately 50 other colleagues from around the world for this cultural exchange to foster international goodwill and professional development. Malissia was the only financial planner from the state of Tennessee. The trip included visiting Beijing, Guilin, and Shanghai. It was a rewarding professional experience and she visited many of the financial institutions, including the Shanghai Stock Exchange. Malissia will again participate as part of a delegation traveling to Australia in 2018.

Brian M. Johnson, CFP®
Brian is excited to return to Emerald Spectrum Advisory. He developed his passion for financial planning when he first worked with Emerald Spectrum in 2011. He became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM practitioner in 2014, after which he set out to gain further experience and specialization, working with young professionals and physicians. He returns to Emerald Spectrum Advisory in 2018 as a Registered representative and investment adviser representative of Commonwealth Financial Network®. His professional focus is on developing a multi-generational practice, aimed at helping clients along their career trajectory, into and beyond retirement. He believes in providing a comprehensive, family-focused planning experience so that all aspects of a client’s personal and professional life can be prioritized to best meet their goals.
Brian obtained a bachelor’s degree in business finance from Middle Tennessee State University and a Certificate in Financial Planning from Belmont University. He has served as a Board Member of the Financial Planning Association of Middle Tennessee since 2015. His professional interests include the intricacies of estate and tax planning. He finds the most fulfilling part of his career in becoming an integral partner for his client’s families as he assists them in their financial needs.
He currently lives in Nashville with his wife, Mindy, and their two children, Violet and Isaac. They love spending time together outdoors as a family, enjoying hiking, biking and running. Each year they make a trip to a National Park, with the hope of visiting them all one day. Brian has completed several marathons and also leads a local running group.
Britt Myszka, FPQP™
Service Advisor and Investment Account Analyst
Britt has been part of the Emerald Spectrum Advisory team since March 2006. She earned the FINANCIAL PARAPLANNER QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALTM designation in 2008. Britt is fully licensed as an investment advisor representative and registered representative with Commonwealth Financial Network, having completed the FINRA Series 6, 7, 63, and 65 securities registrations. In addition, she holds a Tennessee life and health insurance license and is a notary public.
Britt has served in a number of roles and gained extensive knowledge throughout her tenure. As a registered service advisor, she participates in many client financial planning relationships. She also has increased her knowledge base in the areas of investment research and asset allocation strategies and serves as the firm’s investment account analyst. She continues to provide direct support to not only the team but also for our clients and enjoys assisting all in navigating through various situations.
Britt is currently enrolled with the College of Financial Planning to obtain the designation of Accredited Portfolio Management AdvisorSM.
With a bachelor’s degree in violin performance from the University of Memphis, she has a deep appreciation for, knows the value of, and enjoys celebrating the various wonderful arts organizations in Nashville.
Julia Humphrey, FPQP™
As a Nashville native with many generations of her family rooted here in Middle Tennessee, Julia stayed close to home for higher education. She earned a BA in design communications with a minor in business administration from Belmont University in 2006. She spent six years in the graphic design field before feeling compelled to seek a new challenge. In early 2014, she joined Emerald Spectrum Advisory as our client services and operations support associate.
She loves establishing and developing relationships, especially with our clients here at Emerald Spectrum Advisory. Her role has evolved into that of a support advisor working closely with Malissia in extracting information from financial documents for data gathering purposes, reviewing and analyzing that information to identify basic strengths and weaknesses relating to risk management, including income tax issues, retirement issues, and investment issues. She is a problem-solver and perfectionist with an acute attention to detail. An enthusiastic learner, Julia earned her Financial Paraplanner Qualified ProfessionalTM designation in early 2016, and in 2017, she became fully licensed as an investment advisor representative and registered representative with Commonwealth Financial Network, having completed the FINRA Series 7 and 66 securities registrations.
Client Experience Coordinator
Sherrie Dickson is also a Nashville native. She joined Emerald Spectrum Advisory in August 2016 as the receptionist and quickly developed this role into the official Client Experience Coordinator. She is in charge of the planning for our annual client event and our client appreciation program.
She supports the entire team operationally and administratively and enjoys seeing to our client’s needs and helping them to be a part of our extended family.
Sherrie was an Art and Music Major while attending Lipscomb University before settling into raising 3 children and she now enjoys spoiling her 2 grandsons who (thank goodness) live locally. She has more than 20 years’ experience as an administrative support in banking, trust, and business licensing. Sherrie resides in Brentwood with her husband, John and enjoys singing in her church choir, playing the ukulele, and volunteering/fund-raising for Meals on Wheels.
