Malissia A. Johnson, CFP®
Malissia is the founder and president of Emerald Spectrum Advisory. She has been serving multi-generation families since 1998, having been in financial services since 1982. She is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner as well as an Accredited Asset Management SpecialistSM and Chartered Mutual Fund CounselorSM. She is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), the Financial Services Institute (FSI), and the Insured Retirement Institute (IRI). Malissia is also an Investment Adviser Representative of Commonwealth Financial Network®.
She is a Tennessee native and calls Brentwood home with her husband, Dennis, and their two orange tabbies, Clementine and Tangerine. Her daughter, Lauren, graduated from the University of Tennessee in spring 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in sociology. The Tennessee mountains just were not big enough, so Lauren is living in Denver and thoroughly enjoys many outdoor activities—summer and winter do not make a difference to her. Malissia’s stepson, Brian, shares her passion for financial planning. He is an associate advisor with Emerald Spectrum Advisory and focuses on assisting young health care professionals with their future family goals.
Malissia is passionate about helping families in all aspects of their financial lives. She enjoys helping them as they pursue their dreams and also in handling life’s speed bumps along the way. She enjoys spending time with her own family, traveling, what she refers to as “creative cooking,” reading, and working on projects around the house. She loves going to concerts of almost any music genre, the theater, plays, musicals, and attending football, baseball, and hockey games.
In 2011, she traveled with the FPA to China as part of a delegation of financial planners. She joined approximately 50 colleagues from around the world for this cultural exchange to foster international goodwill and professional development. Malissia was the only financial planner from the state of Tennessee. In 2018, she participated again as a part of a delegation of about 55 other planners, again the only one from Tennessee. In November 2020, she will travel again as an FPA delegate to South Africa. These have been unbelievably rewarding professional experiences, obtaining a better understanding of the practice of personal financial planning as well as the development of the financial planning profession in these countries. And sharing America’s financial planning practices with a country’s local planners and discussing the differences, the benefits, and the mutual discovery that the people we all serve are not that different in their dreams for a secure financial future for their families.
Malissia Johnson is proud to have been recognized as a President's Club advisor for 2019—a distinction based on annual production attained by 13 percent of advisors affiliated with Commonwealth Financial Network.
Each year, Commonwealth, the Registered Investment Adviser–broker/dealer that helps us process investment transactions on your behalf, recognizes President's Club advisors by inviting them to an exclusive gathering of their peers, leading industry experts, and Commonwealth home office staff. President's Club advisors benefit from an intensive learning and networking experience designed to help them hone their expertise, share best practices, and provide ever-higher levels of service, education, and leadership to their clients.
